RICS sign deal with SBSA

RICS Scotland has signed a protocol with the government’s Scottish Building Standards Agency (SBSA), this week, allowing its surveyors to produce Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for domestic and commercial properties from late next year (2008).

No additional qualifications needed

The business of supplying EPCs in Scotland is going to be very different than England and Wales - It's not going to be a new, entirely separate industry.

Instead, the SBSA are falling back on the various professional bodies to meet its manpower needs.

This means:

Members of RICS who are either Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or technical members (TechRICS) are now able to conduct assessments provided they have training with the necessary software and knowledge of Scottish building stock and the relevant building regulations.

However, no further formal assessment or qualification is required.

RICS: Scotland surveyors to provide new energy certificates.

Anyone know if RICS has kicked up as much fuss in Scotland as it has in England & Wales?

Thought not ;)

The SBSA has also entered into protocols with The Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, Scotland (CIBSE Scotland), The Association of Building Engineers (ABE), and The Energy Institute (EI)
