Institute of Home Inspection (IHI) statement

Submitted by: MikeC (Admin) on 28-Jul-07 01:34:31 PM

In a surprise move that will surely prompt Domestic Energy Assessors to utter the words, 'Groundhog Day', the IHI have today revealed plans to take the Government to the High Court:

Statement from IHI Chairman

It is not without considerable debate that the Institute of Home Inspection Council has unanimously voted to serve a Notice of Intent upon the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government regarding the lack of commitment and consultation given to DEAs and HIs in delivering its HIPs programme.

The Notice of Intent is also to be issued to the High Court dealing with the stayed RICS Judicial Review, so that the courts are made aware of our position and case. The IHI Council has taken expert legal opinion, and there are significant grounds and precedents.

Full Statement

Don't ask me what a 'Notice of Intent' amounts to - Haven't got a clue... even after reading the statement!

The rest of the statement goes on about the hard times suffered by all DEAs and HIs, and the watering-down of home-buying reforms as a result of pressure from opponents such as the RICs etal.

I've spoken briefly with Shane O' Reilly - Chairman of the IHI - and he has agreed to elaborate on the reasons for this action on an emergency podcast this evening.

Watch this space - Should be up about 9pm.
